Democrats Chief Deputy Whip Says Catholic Bishops Should Be Shut Out!!! (Corrected)

Update!!!! Well thank God it appears she was misquoted. It appears at this point leadership of a major party is not trying to violate the First amendment and religious liberty on this issue.
Who is this insane woman that is now invoking this new supposed no-input clause of the First Amendment.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, till Archbishop Chaput of Denver lays a huge Six Pack of well reasoned whoop ass on her rant.

DeGette vs. the Catholic Bishops. . . and the Public [Ramesh Ponnuru]
The Hill writes up an ABC interview:
She also said that religiously-affiliated groups like the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which had pushed for the Stupak provision, should be shut out of the process."Last I heard, we had separation of church and state in this country," she said. "I've got to say that I think the Catholic bishops and all of the other groups shouldn't have input."

That's from the famous no-input clause of the
First Amendment.
The Washington Post just polled on the question. "Say someone buys private health insurance using government assistance to help pay for it. Do you think insurance sold that way should or should not be allowed to include coverage for abortions?" Results: 35 percent were with DeGette, 61 percent against.

The entire interview is interesting. She also says:

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) won't have the votes to block a health bill if it doesn't contain his abortion restrictions, Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) claimed Tuesday.DeGette, the co-chairwoman of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, refuted Stupak's claim that he has enough votes to fell health reform in the House if leaders strip his amendment expanding restrictions on federal funding of abortions.

So says the Chief Deputy Whips whose main job is ensure passage of key pieces of legislation and appears to have been caught flatfooted when the amendment passed.
