The Annoying Cowbell Catholics of Mississippi State

Boy those cowbells are annoying. I thought they were banned at games one time but they are still ringing away. Well it is game week so time again to look at the State of Catholic Campus Ministry. I am doing this while looking at the Catholics Centers of the schools LSU and LA Tech play. This week LSU plays Mississippi State.

Yes there are Catholics in Mississippi!!! Many are clumped together on the Coast and of course along the River towns big and small along the Mississippi River. Up in the Delta where Rice farming is big one is a tad surprised to see how many former Louisiana Catholics folks from the Crowley/Kaplan area migrated up years ago to establish farms. Of course the Catholic History is rich here. What used to be the Diocese of Natchez is one of the older Diocese in the nation. Plus some of the early Masses ever said on these shores were down around the Biloxi region.

Still that does not correct their evil error of being cowbell Mississippi State fans. The only thing worse would to be Ole Miss Catholics so at least they are not that.

The little town of Starksville (Starkvegas as we call it) is not exactly in Catholic central of the State. Still they seem to have a nice community. Here is the the Mississipi State Catholic web site.

For LSU fans going to the game help the Cowbell Catholics out. I see on their web site:
CSA will be parking cars in the St. Joe parking lot for the LSU game. Sign up at TND. The proceeds go towards our annual mission trips.

On a related Catholic Mississipi State note see an older entry of mine SEC Baseball Star to Catholic Priest- Father Burke Masters

Anyway GEAUX TIGERS BEAT STATE.

Next up a review of the Hawaii Catholics that will be playing Louisiana Tech this week.

Even though I rather thought that the Catholic student center (and the only parish) in Starkville was weak, I have a lot of admiration for them being Catholic in N. Central Mississippi, where Catholicism is largely frowned upon. God bless em (and help us beat 'em this weekend ;) )
