Why Can't American Catholics Be More Like European Catholics

That is often the mantra I hear in some quarters? Oh why don't you conservative Catholics take a more Catholic European view that is so much more mature and totally Catholic. All those Catholics Converts with their Calvanist baggage and all buying into the ulitmate sin of American exceptionalism , Wal-Mart, NRA stickers , talking about abortion, too much Culture warrior Catholic rambo stuff ,and such.

I often wonder why we are not asked to be more like African Catholics by this group but whatever. (THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE POLES OF COURSE)

Gays Good. Catholics Bad?
The European Parliament has voted 401 - 220 in favour of a report which calls for same-sex marriage and/or civil unions to be recognized across all EU states, says the Sydney Star Observer.OK. So hypothetical question here:

Because of laws precluding a British royal from marrying a Catholic, if Great Britain's Prince William married..say... the gay Catholic Andrew Sullivan, Prince William would be ineligible to take the crown, not because he married a man but because Sullivan was Catholic?Yeah, this European Union thing is working out great.
